Project Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Expo 2020 Infrastructure

UAE selected the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", sub-themes being Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity

The BESIX-Orascom joint venture was awarded the contract to develop the infrastructure for the Expo 2020 site in Dubai.

The scope of the infrastructure package includes irrigation and sewerage, pipes and cabling, roads, electricity and water, and telecommunications ducting.

Expo 2020 Dubai will showcase and explore what is possible when new ideas and people connect. Once completed, the 4.38km2 Expo 2020 site will be used to host up to 300,000 visitors per day, between October 2020 and April 2021.

Expo 2020 Dubai is the first time that a Middle Eastern city has hosted the event. The staging of the world fair and the preparations leading up to it are expected to result in 277,000 new jobs in the UAE, an injection of nearly $40 billion into the economy, and an increase in visitors of at least 25 million and up to 100 million. The world's tallest commercial tower to be built in Dubai, in Jumeirah Lake Towers, was given the name "Burj 2020" in honour of the World Expo 2020.

This important contract will help us meet our target of completing the majority of construction a year before the Expo 2020 Dubai opens its doors, providing the opportunity for all-important readiness testing.
